A quick guide to generate, check status of static password on the new income tax website

The new Income tax website, launched by the Income Tax Department, has many advantages and features to make the taxpaying process easy and seamless for the taxpayers. From free Income Tax Returns software to a dashboard, the new e-filing portal is not only user-friendly but also provides a new experience for the taxpayer.

One such unique service of the new income tax website is the generation of static passwords. In simple terms, static passwords are reusable passwords that do not expire and are typically user-generated. They work best when used with another authentication type, like a smart card or biometric control.

Static password on new income tax website:

Static password on the new IT portal is useful when taxpayers face network connection issues or do not have access to mobiles. In the absence of a proper network and internet connection, receiving a one-time password (OTP) or Electronic Verification Code (EVC) is an uphill task. In such cases, static passwords come to the rescue and work as an authentication.

It is to be noted that to log in to the new income tax website, taxpayers need two-factor authentication i.e. an additional layer of security.
