A rift seems to be widening in Bihar NDA as one of its allies, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), has demanded the setting up of a co-ordination committee in the backdrop of comments made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders who questioned the Nitish Kumar-led government over incidents of atrocities against Dalits.
Recently, BJP MP and Bihar party unit president Sanjay Jaiswal and state minister from BJP Janak Ram, attacked the government over incidents of atrocities against Dalits in Motihari, Gopalganj and Jamui.
Sanjay Jaiswal had questioned Bihar police’s style of functioning in a case in which a Dalit was allegedly tortured by the Muslim community in Motihari. On the other hand, Janak Ram shot off a letter to the DM and SP of Gopalganj and Jamui, raising the issue of alleged religious conversions of Dalits and getting them married to Muslim youths.
In this regard, HAM, which is former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi’s party, slammed both the BJP leaders for attacking the state government.
HAM spokesperson Dr Danish Rizwan alleged that some BJP leaders were trying to destabilise Nitish Kumar-led government in the state. He said that his party has demanded the setting up of an NDA coordination committee to resolve issues.
“There are a few BJP leaders, who through their comments, are trying to destabilise the Bihar government. This also gives an opportunity to the Opposition. We demand the setting up of a co-ordination committee before the situation worsens,” said Dr Danish Rizwan.
The HAM had contested last year’s state assembly election as a NDA ally and won four seats.
