Aisha Sultana, who is an activist, has been charged with sedition after she called Lakshadweep’s administrator Praful K Patel a ‘bio-weapon’ in a TV debate. Lakshadweep BJP president C Abdul Khader Haji, filed a complaint against the actress, after which she was slapped with sedition charges.

WHO IS AISHA SULTANA?
Aisha Sultana hails from Chetiath island in Lakshadweep. She has been extremely vocal about the proposed legislation and the reform measures that received widespread criticism from locals.
She is a model, actress and a budding filmmaker. She had worked with several directors in the Malayalam film industry.
Earlier, Aisha worked as an associate director in the Malayalam film Kettoyolaanu Ente Malaakha.

WHAT HAPPENED TO AISHA SULTANA?
During a debate on a Malayalam television channel, Sultana allegedly said, “Lakshadweep had 0 cases of Covid-19. Now, it is reporting a daily spike of 100 cases. What the Centre has deployed is a bio-weapon. I can say this clearly that the central government has deployed bio-weapon.”
Lakshadweep BJP unit president Abdul Khader filed a complaint with Kavaratti Police in which he said that what Sultana did was an anti-national act, which tarnished the ‘patriotic image’ of the central government.
Following the complaint, Aisha Sultan has been booked for sedition. The case was registered under Sections 124 A (sedition) and 153 B (hate speech) at Kavaratti police station.
