Fitbit Charge 5 Fitness Band With Always-On Display, Daily Readiness Score, On-Wrist ECG App Launched

Fitbit Charge 5 has officially been unveiled globally with a sleeker design and a brighter display. Fitbit says the Charge 5 is 10 percent thinner than the Fitbit Charge 4, but continues to offer up to 7 days of battery life. The fitness band comes with a new health metric called the Daily Readiness Score that calculates your “readiness” for a workout and suggests what you should be doing on a given day based on heart rate, sleep, and other activity. It may suggest light yoga, high-intensity workouts, or rest depending on the score. Other features of the Fitbit Charge 5 include an on-wrist ECG app and an EDA sensor for tracking stress levels.

Fitbit Charge 5 price, sale

The new Fitbit Charge 5 is priced at $179.95 (roughly Rs. 13,300) in the US market, EUR 179.95 (roughly Rs. 15,600) in Europe, and AUD 269.95 (roughly Rs. 14,500) in Australia. The fitness band will be up for pre-order on August 25. Customers who pre-order the wearable will get six months of Fitbit Premium subscription at no extra cost. The Fitbit Charge 5 comes in Graphite and Black, Platinum and Steel Blue, and Gold and Lunar White colour options. There is no clarity on when the Fitbit Charge 5 will launch in other international markets, including India.

Fitbit Charge 5 specifications and features

As for features and specifications, the Fitbit Charge 5 has stainless steel sides that double up as sensors for the ECG app as well as the EDA sensors. As mentioned, the Fitbit Charge 5 features a Daily Readiness Score that is only accessible to Fitbit Premium users. It essentially tells you whether you should focus on recovery or do an intense workout. The score is analysed based on level of activity, last three days of sleep, and heart rate variability. Other features of the Fitbit Charge 5 include built-in GPS, 20 goal-setting exercise modes, real-time active zone minutes tracking, and automatic exercise recognition. It features a colour AMOLED touchscreen display — said to be thinner and 2x brighter than the Charge 4.

The ECG app will not be bundled with the wearable at launch, but the company says it will be introduced on the Charge 5 soon. After each assessment, the ECG app will provide a PDF report that users can share with their doctors. In addition, the Charge 5 will also send on-wrist notifications when the heart rate is above or below the preferred range. It also offers data on breathing rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2). Other features include hydration reminders, menstrual tracking, idle reminders, 20 colourful watch faces, Always-On display mode, email and call notifications, quick replies (only for Android), do not disturb mode, and Fitbit Pay contactless payments (in select markets).

With the bundled Fitbit Premium subscription, users get access to video workouts from brands like Daily Burn, Physique 57, Popsugar, Aaptiv, and more. It also offers access to over 300 mindfulness sessions from Deepak Chopra, Croix, Breethe, and others. Fitbit has also partnered with Calm to offer 30 pieces of new content for Fitbit users.

Fitbit is yet to reveal the detailed specifications of the device.
