Decoding the lead look
Hair: Long and pulled back evenly all around. Sideburns that cut into the cheeks to add some length to the face.
Brows: Thick and bushy with deep set eyes.
Face: Fresh, clean shaved face. We used the Coffee Face Wash by Bombay Shaving Company to make the skin look bright and fresh.
Lips: Thin upper lip. We used the lip serum roll on by Bare Body Essentials to soften, repair, repair and moisturise the lips.
Ethnic, modern & printed Shirts
How do you differentiate between shirts?
There is a fine line between the three and the difference lies in the details: more specifically the cut of the collar (ethnic & casual shirts normally have rounded, Mandarin or longer collars while formal shirts have short and sharp collars with a button down or turn up option), the style of the cuff (formal shirts have well defined sharp cuffs with a dual button fastening and a slot to add cufflinks, which casual or ethnic ones don’t), the fit (most formal shirts have a slim or tapered fit, while casual ones have a relaxed or comfort fit), the choice of buttons (formal ones will normally have transparent high quality buttons that don’t stand out against the base of the shirts fabric) and the embellishments (contrasting coloured thread or prints on casual shirts and the lack of almost anything on formal shirts).
1.Seasons: Full and half sleeve shirts are and not restricted to the seasons.
2.Body type: Men with prominent shoulders and a broad chest carry off half sleeve shirts better than those who are slim or lean.
3.Combination: If you like wearing a half sleeve shirt, it’s a good idea to wear it over a contrasting-coloured full sleeve t-shirt style top.
4.Silhouette: When wearing a casual shirt over a t-shirt (plain or printed), you can either button up (partially) or leave your shirt completely open and undone.
5.Styling: A semi formal or dressy full sleeve shirt can look casual if you undo the first few buttons, roll up the sleeves and wear it with a pair of jeans or casual trousers.
How to wear them
Tucked In: When you tuck your shirt into your jeans or trousers, its best to allow the ends to go flat into your underwear for a snug and crease free fit. This will also prevent the shirt from getting gathers around the waist – especially when you sit or are on the move.
Left out: If you don’t like to tuck your shirt into your lowers, you could always leave it out – provided of course, that the shirt ends no lower than your hip level – anything longer just won’t work as it tends to visually change your body proportions. In this case, shirts with a tapered rounded cut or slits on either side are preferred over those that don’t. This of course can only be done with casual shirts at informal settings.
My pick: The range of shirts by SajKe studio which are made of organic cotton and khadi fabrics. Some styles have an authentic block printing technique, and the range comes in floral pastel colours. The shirts are extremely light and are made with breathable fabrics.
My pick: This colour block shirt from Andamen is made with Egyptian Giza cotton and has a soft feel and an elevated look. The Oxford weave pattern makes it both comfortable and durable. This shirt is perfect for a casual smart day look or an early evening occasion. Looks even better on an online zoom call.
My pick: The quirky ‘rickshaw’ printed half sleeve shirt in cotton by the Souled Store. This particular shirt is all about the very obvious desi print and is extremely comfortable on the body. Has a sharp and structured fit and may be tucked into any casual lowers but will look best when left out.
Conventional watch & smart watch
The fashion watch revolution began in the early 80’s and only gained prominence in the 90’s. These watches normally reflect current fashion trends and act as a means of personal expression. Anything goes with fashion watches, and this allows for maximum creativity in their look, feel and design. In general, fashion watches are more affordable as they are often replaced to keep up with fashion trends and passing fads.
My pick: The Aaren Naturals Collection by Skagen. The watch is both environmentally friendly and sustainable as it uses leather alternatives like Mulberry bark and Cork for straps. The watch is available in four colour variants and two sizes: 36mm and 40 mm to fit a variety of wrists. The timepiece has a classic, vintage retro look and feel, which I personally love.
The first smartwatch was made way back in 1927 with mapping technology. Today, smart watches are multi-functional and can be connected via Bluetooth to your mobile phone and computers. Smart watches continue to and will always change, as technology evolves with them.
My pick: Fitbit Sense, which is the most advanced health smartwatch, bringing innovative sensor and software technology with the world’s first electrodermal activity (EDA) sensor to help manage stress. It comes with advanced heart rate tracking technology and an on-wrist skin temperature sensor. Housed in a precision-crafted, intelligent swim proof body, this smart watch offers everything you need to manage your physical and mental health. Looks very slick, feels lightweight on the hand (even while dancing, doing intensive sports or heavy-duty workouts) and is a must have for those of you who are conscious about your overall wellbeing.
Sports shoes & ankle length boots
If you are into running, football, golf, tennis, or basketball, ensure to wear footwear that has been specially designed for the surface the sport is played on. Sport specific footwear just doesn’t give you better grip, but also improves your overall performance levels. Sports shoes must be activity specific as each style is designed with the end use in mind.
My Pick: The Gel Kayano 28 running shoes by Asics for its low-profile heel structure which makes the shoes extremely comfortable. Running seems a lot lighter when you have this pair on. This pair provides a smooth and supportive feel in each step. Available in two colours: electric red & black and a dark orange & sky-blue combination.
Ankle length sneakers
Ankle length footwear is always a hot commodity and for good reason: they are durable, versatile and will make you look both taller and tougher. You have a choice of laces that go all the way up (very modern) or buckles, zippers and metal strips (for a more 80’s look). I suggest you choose a gloss finish instead of matt.
My pick: The Phenom high top leather sneaker by Escaro Royale has a cemented construction. The pair has an Italian rubber sole, French sheepskin leather lining and is made with Argentinian rare white crust leather. The super soft lace up style has zippers on the side, which gives them a trendy urban look. Just as perfect for the night club as it is for a ride on your mean machine.
Leather accessory cases & bags
Leather cases to store watches, cufflinks and eyewear are a must have for any stylish man. Choose a colour and texture based on your personal preferences but always ensure they are both practical and functional.
My pick: If you collect accessories like I do, then this smart cufflink case by The Leather Story is a must have on your dresser or in your wardrobe. The leather case has multiple compartments to place 16 cufflinks and allows you to glance at and then pick the pair from your collection that matches the days look or mood. Available in a smart navy blue or brown.
Bags have the inherent quality of reflecting who you are. What you carry, is always seen and gets noticed. Choose a bag that makes a strong style statement but is yet functional and fits all your essentials. I suggest a colour that matches the dominant palette of your wardrobe. As a rule, your man bag must always match the belt and shoes that you are wearing.
My pick: Orion by Paul Adams is an unusual but eye-catching camera inspired messenger bag. Crafted from genuine Napa leather, it features a sleeve for you to easily slide in your tablet, with enough space for documents, additional pocket to keep a mobile, and a front circular zip pocket. It features a long adjustable leather strap and one pocket on the back as well. The bag suitably frames a handmade painting giving it the likeness of a camera lens. It has a soft sheep leather lining and is both waterproof and UV coated for maximum durability.
